Tips on how to pack light for a getaway weekend

Hey guys, here are some few tips to help you pack light for the weekend, I do hope you find this piece helpful…….
How to pack for a weekend trip
No doubt most of us look forward to the weekend with all eagerness especially in this part of the world. Our typical working days are characterized with keeping up with dead end jobs, traffic to and fro workplace, bad eating habits, work pressure, “office politicking” to mention a few. Once it’s Friday, you see phrases like TGIF (Thank God is Friday), Friyaay, on various social media platforms. Do you blame us, I bet you don’t.
People maximize their weekend in diverse ways, for party rockers it’s time to attend owanbe parties (social functions) characterized with colourful aso ebi, bespoke styles, to some it’s a time to engage in religious activities, while to some it’s a time to stay home to enjoy quality time and close up moments with loved ones and of course for people like my humble self weekend is for eating, sleeping and catching up with my favourite TV programmes, did someone just said am living a boring life, well am trying to socialize better this year and it’s part of my 2017 resolution.
While others utilize their weekend for quick visitation to pals, boyfriends, fiancés or parents (if they leave apart or long distance from each other). Please note that packing for a few days visit can be tricky as we often tend to over pack, here are guides on how you can keep your bag small, tidy and handy.
Kick start this trip by making a list which will enable you cut out a few non-essentials items before you start packing your bag, also put into consideration the weather condition, as well as events and activities you will attend over the weekend.
Essential Clothing Items ONLY
Pack clothes you will truly and honestly need not clothes you think you might need as this will lead you to packing more, avoid bulky clothes, and check for lighter piece of clothes. Select few clothes that are not choosy with other colours to enable you maximize your combination. This is a clue, you know on Saturday you might go to the movies, hang out at night, right? Then having a pair of jeans either blue or black and a going out top in any colour will suffice. On Sunday, you know you would go to a place of worship, a simple dress either in Africaprint or any other dress fabric with (out) a scarve or fascinator will work. If you pack a Mummy G.O kind of hat *wink* it won’t make your back pack manageable. Roll your clothes instead of folding them, this will help you save space and it may keep your clothes wrinkle free.
Pack Undergarments
Undergarment are quite light and take less space in your bag than clothes, so for a weekend trip, you might want to consider at least two changes of undergarment (pants) and consider an additional one or two in case you might need to change them. One additional change of brassier will be adequate. Your undergarment of course also include pyjamas which we most times forget, light small size towel or a face towel will be useful to rub off your body after bathe, consider the two depending on your bag size, a pair of socks if you don’t like to expose your feet. For these listed ones you do not need changes.
Pack all purpose shoes
Choose a neutral pair of shoes to compliment your packed clothes. Ensure to pack shoes you can rock comfortably on a pair of jean trouser to the movies or on traditional outfit to party or church, a heeled sandal will most likely do the magic. Save space in your bag by putting on the heavy footwear to and fro the trip and keep the lighter shoes in your bag as this will afford you to have more than a pair for the trip.
Keep toiletries smaller
Before embarking on this trip I advice you go to a local supermarket or drug store for tiny versions of your favourite toiletries; mini tube toothpaste, toothbrush, soap, body cream, hair cream; wait a minute, did you just sigh now? I understand, extra money would go on that, no wahala, if you are on a tight budget get small clean containers or bottles, put little quantity from the bigger version you have at home and take with you on the trip. For your perfumes lookout for the sample ones so you don’t carry the whole bottle and risk all of your favourite designer scent spilling in your bag. You can get a small size Ziploc bag (transparent plastic like bag) to keep them. But seriously, in a communal society like ours, using your friend’s toothpaste or soap over the weekend shouldn’t be a big deal.
Consider whether you will need makeup
Pack your makeup if you do think you will need it, but don’t bring too much. If you would be attending events and taking a lot of pictures consider bringing your makeup, so you don’t feel bad when you see your pictures on face book and you looking too bland. Make up boost most ladies confidence, however, bring the major ones, like your foundation, compact powder, eye pencil, mascara, lip gloss or lipstick, don’t bring your big palette eye shadow please, get a small compact one.
Other items
If your weekend bag is stuffed full and you have other items like identification card, phones, charger, earpiece, small notepad and pen, wallet, drugs, and a small compatible bible, I suggest you pack them neatly in your hand bag.
Be organized about your packing
Obviously you want to make sure you know where everything is kept so you aren’t scrambling to look for it later. For example put all your clothe together in one spot of your bag, suitcase or whatever you’re bringing to pack your items in. Make sure to put anything small, or that could get loose in your bag, into small pocket or bag.
I do hope this post will be helpful to you now or in the nearest future. Cheers to a splendid weekend. xoxo……
